A Simple Way to Read through Your Bible
If there’s one thing you can say about us faith people, we love our Bibles!
The old-fashioned ones, with paper pages that are filled with colored marker, hand-written notes, falling out and taped in pages. The ones that have been with us through the mountains, the valleys and the victories. The more tattered the page, the more valuable they have become. (And yes, we appreciate our digital copies also!)
By reading and studying the Bible, David, Jeremiah and Paul have become our acquaintances, even friends. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, their writings convey great imagery and depth, and transport the reader into biblical events and places. When we grope for words to express our heart, the Psalms become our prayer. When we hunger for truth, the scriptures feed us to the full. When Jesus speaks, we hear God the Father’s voice.
I love the Word of God so much that when I believed God for a husband, after him loving God first, my second request was that he studied the Word more than I did!
I remember my first Old Testament Survey course, at the church we attended on the north side of Chicago. (The same church in my husband’s sermons where he got filled with the Holy Spirit.) The wealth of information and revelation inspired me and I got hooked. Something in me changed. It was almost thirty years ago. I didn’t know that the Bible had been dissected and analyzed and outlined by Bible scholars for centuries! Seeing the Bible through the eyes of these teachers gave me a whole new level of understanding the bigger picture, connecting all the books of the Bible and their meanings, on a timeline of events. Having read the entire Bible spawned a new level of study which even today enriches my relationship with God.
Many years ago, I attended one of Marilyn Hickey’s “Walk thru the Bible” seminars where she showed Jesus in every book of the Bible. She had the teachings on audio tape and a large 3 ring notebook with a section for each of the 66 books of the Bible. And of course, who doesn’t remember J. Vernon McGee, whose expository teachings through the entire bible (in 5 years) graced the radio airwaves for many years? What a blessing! Now we have study Bibles, text books, brochures with illustrations and timelines and genealogies and maps – I’m in Bible heaven!
Creating our LWCC 8 week “Introduction to the Bible Class” (now taught by video) was an outgrowth of this great desire to share with our local church the awesomeness of the revelation available to us from the entire Bible. Faith, wisdom, vision, direction, it’s all there! The Word of God is a mirror that reveals who we really are and is our spiritual daily bread.
“A Simple Way to Read Through Your Bible” was birthed to aid new and mature believers on their journey through the Word of God. There is a brief description of every book of the Bible, to give the reader a general idea of what it’s about. The bonus part is the detachable recording fold-out card in the back of the book. Just draw a diagonal line across the chapter number as you read. No specific reading schedules, just read at your own pace – according to your plan – with no stress! I’m all for Bible reading plans, where you read a certain number of chapters each day, but once you fall behind, it may be hard to get caught up. With this system, you read more or less, as time allows.
It’s so rewarding to hear feedback on how this simple book is impacting lives. Many saints have purchased multiple copies for family members to read through the Bible, and that’s a legacy for any family to be proud of! I personally use the recording chart, as I feed my spiritual appetite.
Please accept my invitation to join me in reading through the entire Bible over and over again, until Jesus comes. The blessing of the Holy Spirit teaching and revealing biblical principles is invaluable and your relationship with God will surely be enhanced. He has answers just waiting your discovery. And no matter where He leads you to read, He is speaking….
